(STFI) was to develop an effective concept to reduce the noise impact of RoRo handling in the port of Rostock on the residential development approaching the port area.<\/p>\n<p><!--contentpartdivider--><\/p>\n<h2>Mobile noise barrier<\/h2>\n<p>For the practical implementation of new types of noise protection measures, the project partners pursued an innovative combined solution approach of active and passive sound compensation.<\/p>\n<p>For passive sound compensation, AED and STFI developed and tested a flexible, mobile noise barrier with new types of acoustically effective and rollable textiles and a sound-diffracting crown element in order to reduce noise emissions from the loading and unloading of RoRo ferries.<\/p>\n<p>The latter particularly concerns energetically dominant, pulse-like broadband noise that is caused when towing vehicles or trailers pass in the area of \u200b\u200bthe rear edge of the quay-side flaps of the ship ramp, which lead to audible noise levels at the relevant emission locations on the west side of the river Warnow.<\/p>\n<h2>Acoustic design<\/h2>\n<p>Within the project, AED applied its expertise in the areas of computational modeling, acoustic design and optimization as well as the metrological characterization of the textile and wall structures.<\/p>\n<p>The damping properties of the textiles used and the sound-diffracting crown element were turn to the noise sources typical of the port. An adaptation of the mobile noise barrier to alternative application and framework conditions, e.g. for protection against temporary leisure noise, construction site noise, etc., can be implemented immediately.<\/p>\n<p>The research project was co-financed by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure as part of the IHATEC program.<\/p>\n<p><a
