{"id":997,"date":"2012-07-27T09:29:27","date_gmt":"2012-07-27T09:29:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.akustik-forschung.de\/test\/?p=997"},"modified":"2025-10-29T15:08:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T14:08:21","slug":"spb-statistisches-vorbeifahrt-verfahren","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/en\/leistungen\/umweltakustik\/strassenlarm\/spb-statistisches-vorbeifahrt-verfahren\/","title":{"rendered":"SPB &#8211; Statistical pass-by method"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/messung_spb_15_ed_ws.jpg\" rel=\"gallery\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4777 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/messung_spb_15_ed_ws-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Statistical pass-by method (SPB measurement) for determination of noise emission of a road surface\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/messung_spb_15_ed_ws-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/messung_spb_15_ed_ws-640x424.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/messung_spb_15_ed_ws-440x292.jpg 440w, https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/messung_spb_15_ed_ws.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To determine the sound emission of road surfaces, the statistical pass-by method (SPB measurement) described in DIN EN ISO 11819-1 can be applied as an alternative to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/en\/leistungen\/umweltakustik\/strassenlarm\/cpx-rollgerauschmessung\/\">measurement of tire\/road noise (CPX measurement)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In case of influencing sound reflexions from behind (e.g. in urban areas by rows of houses laterally to the road), it can be switched the so-called &#8220;backing board&#8221; method as a modified SPB method according to ISO\/PAS 11819-4.<\/p>\n<p><!--contentpartdivider--><\/p>\n<h4>Principle of SPB method<\/h4>\n<p>In both cases, the measuring quantity to be evaluated is the time history of the A-weighted sound pressure level (SPL) occuring during pass-by of a vehicle of constant speed at a horizontal distance of 7,5 m to the center of the road lane.<br \/>\nThe time history of the SPL during pass-by of a statistically significant total number of vehicles of various categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cars<\/li>\n<li>two-axial truck<\/li>\n<li>multi-axial truck<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>is evaluated with respect to the maximum SPL level. The latter one is plotted against the vehicle speed. Subsequently, the vehicle noise level for a defined reference speed of the various categories is determined by linear regression.<\/p>\n<p>To evaluate the road surfaces with respect to noise emission, the various vehicle noise levels are weighted and summed up energetically. The resulting single value is the so called SPB index.<\/p>\n<p>The lower the SPB index is, the lower the noise generation of the road surface is. Alternatively, the DStrO value (correction term for different road surfaces) according to the previous \u201eGuidelines for noise protection at roads &#8211; RLS-90\u201c can be specified from the vehicle noise level of cars. To determine correction values for comparison with the current \u201eGuidelines for noise protection at roads &#8211; RLS-19\u201c, the evaluation according to TP KoSD-19 can be carried out by combining the results of SPB measurements with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akustikforschung.de\/en\/leistungen\/umweltakustik\/strassenlarm\/cpx-rollgerauschmessung\/\">CPX<\/a> results.<\/p>\n<h4>Requirements for SPB measurement<\/h4>\n<p>The determination of the vehicle noise level only allows the evaluation of valid vehicle pass-by. A valid vehicle pass-by requires a technically faultless vehicle. Furthermore, the time history of the SPL during pass-by of the vehicle to be investigated has to decline about more than 6 dB to both sides of the maximum SPL. Therefore, within the considered time interval no other vehicle is allowed to enter the road segment to be investigated.<\/p>\n<h4>Modified SPB-method &#8211; Average level method<\/h4>\n<p>Caused by the continuously increasing volume of traffic, on highways in many cases the required total number of valid vehicle pass-by cannot be achieved. Therefore, aim of a project on behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute &#8211; Bundesanstalt f\u00fcr Stra\u00dfenwesen (BASt) was the development of a novel average level method to investigate the influence of road surfaces on traffic noise, even in the case of high volume of traffic.<\/p>\n<p>The novel method is based on the simulation of the SPL time history of the single vehicles passing the receiver by applying a suitable sound propagation model. This requires especially the knowledge of the specific traffic flow. By comparing the synthesized simulated SPL time history of the whole traffic flow with the measured one, the vehicle noise level (or the DStrO-value respectively) can be determined representing the influence of the road surface on traffic noise.<\/p>\n<p>The testing of the new average level method showed that the deviation of the vehicle noise level for cars is much less than the measurement tolerance of the present statistical pass-by method.<\/p>\n<p><!--contentpartdivider--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4776\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a
